Old town and casemates
The ramparts and Bock Casemates tell three centuries of fortifications carved into the rock. A walk along the Chemin de la Corniche, nicknamed Europe’s most beautiful balcony, offers a plunging view over the Grund. Meeting near the Grand Ducal Palace, then heading down the cobbled lanes, makes for a first stroll that looks like a postcard without ever feeling ordinary.
Place d’Armes and terraces
Place d’Armes gathers the city’s central terraces around the Cercle Municipal. People happily have a drink here after work, mixing conversations in French, Luxembourgish, German and English. To extend the evening, the bars of Rue du Marché-aux-Herbes and Rue Chimay welcome you in a polished, cosmopolitan atmosphere, conducive to lovely encounters.
Grund and the Alzette banks
At the bottom of the ravine, the Grund is a former lower district turned into one of the most charming, with its taverns, artists and little bridge over the Alzette. A night-time walk, climbing back up through the discreet lifts, leaves long memories. On Lyad, members in Luxembourg share their favourite places; it is up to you to find someone to head down into the Grund with.
